World Environment Day
Thursday | June 5, 2025
World Environment Day, observed annually on June 5, was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972. More than fifty years later, World Environment Day has grown to be one of the largest platforms for environmental outreach, with millions of people participating online and through in-person activities and events.
Calling for responsible conduct on the part of individuals, organizations, and communities, World Environment Day is a reminder that global well-being and economic development depend heavily on protecting the environment.
Every year, World Environment Day is hosted by a different city or region, with a different theme. The Republic of Korea (South Korea) will host World Environment Day 2025. The theme chosen for this year is strengthening the commitment to ending global plastic pollution.
