Summer Solstice
Friday | June 20, 2025
Occurs at 9:42 pm Central Daylight Time (CDT)
The summer solstice marks the first day of summer for those of us who live in the Northern Hemisphere. On this day at the moment of the summer solstice, the Earth experiences its maximum tilt toward the sun at the location of the North Pole. We experience the most amount of daylight hours, or what we call the "longest day of the year."
Once we pass the summer solstice in June, the days gradually will get shorter as summer progresses into fall. While it may be unnoticeable as we enjoy peak summer weather here in the Chicago area, already it is starting to get dark earlier after today!
